Dorothy Ione Hecathorn

Dorothy Ione Hecathorn, 92, of Sandwich, IL passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Sandwich Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Sandwich. She was born July 30, 1921 in Sandwich, IL the daughter of Maurice and Alice (Appel) Smith. She married Chester J. Hecathorn on June 15, 1946 in Sandwich, IL. Dorothy was a member of the United Church of Sandwich, the Hope Circle at the Church, a past Sunday School Teacher, and the Waterman Grange. As a young lady she was active in the Buzzin Dozen Ladies Club. She enjoyed working the Sandwich Fair at the Log Cabin and serving church lunches. Dorothy worked at New Idea, General Telephone and retired from CTS Knights after 30 plus years. She cherished all of her family, enjoyed going to her grandson‘s sporting activities, was a devoted fan of the Chicago White Sox, and the Chicago Bears. Dorothy enjoyed reading, baking, gardening, crossword puzzles and loved an opportunity to travel and sightsee. She spent many hours on her family genealogy and local history.

She is survived by one son Gary (Elaine) Hecathorn of East Peoria, IL; one daughter, Corinne (Richard) Parson of Yorkville, IL; four grandchildren, Chad (Tina) Hecathorn of Sparland, IL, Joseph Maly of Keizer, OR, Trisha Renken of Germantown Hills, IL and Scott (Jenell) Hecathorn of Metamora, IL; three great grandchildren, Kathryn, and Cassidy Renken and Olivia Hecathorn; two sisters, Marjorie (Eugene) Hash of Somonauk, IL and Elaine Kittleson of DeKalb, IL; one brother, Gerald (Sharon) Smith of Eustis, FL and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Kathleen Hecathorn, two brothers, Wendell, and James Smith, one sister, Beverly Kolka.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL with the Pastor Jonathan Singleton officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday in the funeral home.
