Dorothy (Mrs. Zean) Davis of Plano died Monday, December 27, 2010 in Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. She was born January 15, 1915 in Sheridan, IL. Mrs. Davis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. With her husband, Mrs. Davis founded and operated Davis Manufacturing Company. Later they purchased and managed Davis Construction Company, which she continued to operate for 20 years after his death. She owned and managed Davis Apartments in Plano, assisted by her grandson, Tim Holt. She was a charter member of the Fox Valley Family YMCA and served on its Board of Directors for many years. As a member of the Sandwich Community Hospital Association and the Hospital Auxiliary, she served as Treasurer and Secretary. She was a founding member of the Plano Development Association, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, The Kendall County Historical Society and the Kendall County Foundation. She served as Alderperson from Plano Ward 2 and was Chairperson of the Finance Committee and was actively involved in the Economic Development Commission and Comprehensive Development Program.
She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Sutker (Mrs. Marshall), and Barbara J. Davis; six grandchildren, Steven Sutker, Cindy Sutker Davis, Timothy Holt, Kevin Holt, Richard Belfatti and Susan Belfatti Kelly; and by nine great grandchildren, Christopher and Ashley Holt, Summer Holt, Rachel Cooper, Noah, Quinn and Dylan Sutker, Alexandra and Lilliann Kelly; her sisters, Myrtle Wright (Mrs. Robert), and Ruth King (Mrs. Russell), a sister-in-law Doris Ropp (Mrs. Frank), and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Zean, her parents Frank and Pearl Ropp, her brothers, Dean, Frank and Donald, her sister, Ethel Ropp Lyman, as well as by two great grandsons, Wyatt Sutker and Timothy Davis Holt.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service at noon at the Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home, Sandwich, IL. Friends and family are invited for luncheon at the funeral home and then to the interment at Elerding Cemetery in Sheridan, IL at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Timothy Davis Holt Scholarship Fund, 2017 Pauline Pl. Plano, IL, or to The Wyatt Kyle Sutker SMA Foundation, 10928 Harmel Dr., Columbia, MD. 41022, or to The Fox Valley YMCA, 3875 Eldamain Rd., Plano, IL 60545.
