Donald. D. Saam, 81 of Yorkville, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024. He was born December 20, 1942 in Cuba City, Wisconsin, son of Henry Vernon and Clara (Tobin) Saam. He married Ruth Schnabel on May 4, 1968 at St. Peter and Paul Church in Naperville, Illinois. Donald served in the Navy and worked at Caterpillar for 31 years and at H.D. Pump for 10 years. Donald loved fixing cars, visiting car shows, and gardening. He was always there to fix a pothole in the road and help mow someone’s lawn. He was a member of St. Patrick Parish.
Surviving is his wife, Ruth (Schnabel) Saam; two brothers, Richard (Mary Alice) Saam of Corpus Christi, Texas and John Saam of Galena; two daughters, Kim Edwards of Plano, and Kelli (Jerry) Olenyn of Chico, California; six grandchildren, Donald, Matt and Nick Fredres, Carrie (Adam) Iverson, and Jeremy and Ryan Olenyn; and five great-grandchildren; stepsister Mary Roth and stepbrother Don Distler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Virginia (Saam) Sullivan; brother-in-law Jerry Joe Sullivan, and sister-in-law Margaret Saam; stepmother Betty (Distler) Saam, stepbrother David Distler and nephew Chris Saam.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home located at 3952 Turner Ave. Plano, Il. 60545. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am at St. Patrick Parish, 406 Walnut Street in Yorkville, IL 60560 with Father Jim McCormack officiating. Burial to follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Bristol. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
