Donald George Miller – 88 2/9/1929 – 3/23/2017
Donald G. Miller, 88, of Apache Junction, AZ, formerly of Somonauk, IL, passed away March 23, 2017 in Arizona. He was born February 9, 1929, to Harold and Gladys Miller in Somonauk. A 1947 graduate of Somonauk High, he also served in the US Army. He married Doris Trout Riemensnider on February 2, 2002 on the Colorado Belle, Laughlin, NV. For many years, Don was the owner/operator of Miller’s Foods, a Somonauk business stemming from a meat market his grandfather had established in 1899.
Don was a long-time member of the Union Congregational Church of Somonauk. He was a 56-year member of Meteor Lodge #283 in Sandwich, IL, and past Master of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Don liked playing bingo so much that he ran the bingo program at his retirement park for four years.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of Apache Junction, AZ; one sister Carol Larson of Somonauk, IL; three daughters, Deborah Matthews of Sandwich, IL, Peggy Tim Ruegg of Seward, NE, Rhonda Merideth Sears of Charleston, SC; one son Bradley of Yorkville, IL; nineteen grandchildren, Alicia Matthews, Brenton Matthews, Courtney Ruegg, Bethany Tim Semin, Eryn Ruegg, Chelsea Matthews, Abigail Mick Huntley, Jordan Laura Ruegg, Brittany Sears, Douglas Cassandra Ruegg, Caleb Sears, Hannah Ruegg, Isaac Ruegg, Nathan Sears, Kevin Ruegg, Lucas Ruegg, Felicity Ruegg, Nathaniel Ruegg, Noah Ruegg; five great grandchildren, Addisyn Sorenson, Elizabeth Paisley, Jane Huntley, Adelaide Ruegg, Caleb Ruegg; four step-children Christine Olson, Lorilynn Stark, Deanne Edinger, Robert Riemensnider; eight step-grandchildren, Jacob Olson, Colin Olson, Justin Olson, Nathan Olson, Ryan Riemensnider, Britni Stark, Hailey Stark, Koryah Riemensnider, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Florence Boll, his second wife Ruth Bryan Brodie, an infant daughter, Marilyn, a grandson, and an infant granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6th at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home
