Delores Ann (Frein) Devine, 89, of Somonauk, Il passed away on April 16, 2026, in the care of The Pavilion on Main, her life was marked by a strong work ethic and her commitment to her community and family.

She was born April 18, 1936, at the Waterman Hospital in Waterman, IL. She was the only child of the late Edward and Genevieve (Fox) Frein of Somonauk. Delores was raised on a farm and began her education in a one room school house through 8th grade before moving on to the newly built Somonauk High School. This was an exciting transition at the time as the high school was complete with indoor plumbing. Delores graduated from High School with the class of 1954.

On February 15, 1958, she was married to Norman Owen Devine on February 15, 1958 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Norman and Delores were married for 34 years before the unexpected passing of her beloved husband. Together they were blessed with four daughters Denise, Sue, Judith and Valerie.

Delores and Norm owned and operated The Basket restaurant in the 1960s. She worked various part time jobs throughout the years and ended her working career at CTS Knights and ultimately retiring from there.

Delores was a devout Catholic and committed her life to serving the Church and her family. A lifelong parishioner of St. John the Baptist, she generously gave of her time through various committees. She was a member of the St. John’s Women’s Society and started their annual chili supper, the recipe they used was Norm’s creation from their restaurant.

She was active in the Sandwich Hospital Women’s auxiliary and several card clubs. Delores found great joy in gardening, sewing, baking, cooking and traveling, but most of all in spending time with her family. Each year she looked forward to the Sandwich Fair and entering her various projects and meeting up with longtime friends.

Delores is survived by her daughters, Denise (Ken) Mestemaker of Sandwich, Il; Sue (Paul “Rusty”) Fuller of Atchison, KS; Judy (Doug) Weiss of Sandwich, Il; and Valerie Devine-Fahey of Lake Zurich, Il. She was a loving grandmother to John Mestemaker, Kristina Mestemaker, Danielle Fuller, Caitlin Fuller, Genevieve Weiss, and Alaina Fahey. Also survived by five great-grandchildren Miranda, Beau and Mae Mestemaker, Ryker and Ripley Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Norman.

A rosary will begin at 3:00 p.m., followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. Her life will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, with Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
