David Grandin Hunt, Sr., 72, of Earlville passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at his home. He was born August 1, 1951 in Watseka, IL, the son of Elmer Grandin and Helen Doris (Apland) Hunt. David was a member of the graduating class of 1969 from Rankin High School. He then attended NIU and later worked for NIU for 5 years. Dave worked at Jolly’s Men’s Wear in DeKalb, IL, then spent 17 years at Johnson’s Men’s Wear in Sycamore, and he owned the store for the last 2 years before it closed. He managed Kuppenheimer Men’s Clothing Store in Joliet for 5 years. Later, Dave worked for True Value Hardware for 5 years, then ISK Industries of Rolling Meadows, and finally Med Speed in North Aurora as a medical courier, retiring in 2021. In his free time, Dave enjoyed model railroads and watching his favorite teams play, the Cubs, the Bears, and the NIU Huskies. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, David Grandin (Sarah) Hunt, Jr. of Wheaton, IL; his daughter, Tanya (Matthew) Wiskur of Montgomery, IL; his grandchildren, Sawyer, Atticus, Sophia, Harrison, and Tatum; the mother of his children, Cathy Schnable; his brothers, Wallace (Charlene) Hunt of Rockford, Gary (Virginia) Hunt of Rockford, and Rodney Hunt of Marietta, GA; several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Margaret (Bill) Rotramel and his nephew, Matthew Hunt.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at United Church of Sandwich. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the church with Pastor Tom Burke officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
