Daniel J. Hirn Jr., 58, of Yorkville, IL passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at his home in Yorkville, IL. He was born May 20, 1956 in Flint, Michigan the son of Daniel J. and Virginia M. (Stewart) Hirn, who preceded him in death. He was a retired 35-year veteran from the Air Force Reserves, and a member of Yorkville Congregational Church.
Though confronted with much negativity in his life, Dan never stopped smiling, caring and loving. He was a light of joy in the darkest of times.
The family asks that we honor Dan by following his example. Instead of focusing on what we have lost, focus on what we have gained; instead of being upset that things didn't go our way, rejoice that they worked out for someone else; instead of being mad at someone for disagreeing with us, sit back and learn something new; instead of being sad that we have lost something, think of all that we were blessed to have; and instead of complaining about all the little things we don't have, focus on what we do have. Life is unpredictable. We can't afford to take these little joys for granted. Dan was not a perfect man, but he dreamed big and loved without holding back. In the end, that's all that matters anyway.
He is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline L. Hirn and Jamie L. Hirn.; three sisters, Mary (Jim) Walker of Redlands, CA, Jane Hirn of Grand Blanc, MI and Ann (Aran) Kessler of Valparaiso, IN; four brothers, James (Rebecca) Hirn of Bad Axe, MI, John (Michelle) Hirn of Simi Valley, CA, Paul (Debra) Hirn of St. Joseph, MI and Patrick (Ann) Hirn of Vail, CO; and eighteen nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on April 18, 2015 at Yorkville Congregational Church; 409 Center Parkway; Yorkville, IL, with Pastor Mark Gregory officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation the Dan Hirn Memorial Fund. All donations will used to establish college funds for his daughters, Jackie and Jamie. Donations can be made in person or mailed to:
