Clyde M. French, 94, of Sandwich, IL passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 at his residence in Sandwich. He was born March 30, 1921 in DeKalb, IL the son of Arthur G. and Mabel R. Cooper French. He married Evelyn Schumaker on December 14, 1942 in Dakota City, Nebraska, she passed away in 1999. He later married Betty J. Phillips on October 5, 2000 in Sandwich, IL. He was a Captain in the Army Air Corp from March 3, 1942 to December 3, 1945 during WWII. He served in North Africa, Italy and the United States. Clyde was a member of the Federated Church in Sandwich, IL. He was a rural mail carrier for twenty years retiring in 1986. He retired from Mich-Wis Pipeline in 1966. He enjoyed traveling, repairing things, fishing, gardening and baking, but his greatest love of all was his family.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Sandwich; one son, Jon E. French of Hays, KS; one daughter, Janis Lyn Rex Wilkinson of Surprise, AZ; five step children, Dianne Bruce Cochrane, Joanne Kenneth Reutter, Connie Kirby Myers, Bruce Elia Phillips, and Scott Karen Phillips; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Lewis Rice of Surprise, AZ, and Barbara Stanley Brint of Sycamore, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Evelyn, four sisters, Irene Jackson, Dorothy Benson, Hazel Seitzinger, and Doris Jones, six brothers, Floyd, Elwood, Vernon, Edgar, Harry and Walter French.
Celebration of Clyde’s life will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the Federated Church 403 N. Main St. Sandwich, IL with Rev. Dan DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow in Fowler Grove Cemetery Little Rock, IL. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2015 in Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL.
