Clifton Ray Dean Smith, 71, of Somonauk, IL passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora. He was born January 17, 1940 in Kentucky the son of Duff and Mamie (Dicken) Smith. He married Betty Jean Roche on March 3, 1962 in Yorkville, IL. Ray enjoyed fishing, antique furniture and going to auctions. He really enjoyed his friends and the friends he made at the auctions. He was employed for 30 years at Catipillar before retiring in 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Randall Dean Smith of Somonauk; one brother, Bill (Lee) Smith of Streator; one sister, Mabel Sexton of Sheridan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Freed Smith; three brothers, Reed Smith, Cecil Smith and Gobel Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. Burial will follow in Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to American Heart Association, or the charity of choice.
