Christine Renee (Shevokas) Smith, 64, of Somonauk, passed away on June 2, 2026 at home surrounded by her family. She was born November 26, 1961 to Florian J and Loretta J (Wieczorek) Shevokas.
Christine was raised in Plano, attending St. Mary’s School through 8th grade and then Plano High School graduating in 1979. It was there that she met the love of her life, James Ray Smith. They were united in marriage on Sept 19, 1981, they built a beautiful life together, sharing nearly 50 years side by side and more than 44 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Christine attended NIU, where she earned her degree in Operations Management and Information Systems and went on to work as a production planner.
Christine is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, James R., 3 adored children Cynthia (Nicholas) Urbanski of Sandwich, James M Smith of Chenoa, and Jeffrey (Rachel Zajicek) Smith of Joliet; her cherished grandchildren, Emily, Dominick, Camilla, and Gemma; her father Florian Shevokas; and many beloved family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Loretta, her mother-in-law Helen M Smith, and her father-in-law Edward R. Smith.
Christine embraced life with enthusiasm and found happiness in both everyday moments and special adventures. Whether she was tending her garden, baking something delicious for her family, cheering on her favorite teams, crocheting a thoughtful gift, bowling a strike, or casting a line while fishing, she did everything with care and joy. She especially loved garage sales with family and looked forward to her beloved Ladies Days spent shopping, laughing, and exploring craft shows.
Above all else, Christine’s greatest joy was her family. She was a constant presence in the lives of those she loved - cheering at sporting events, attending school programs, plays, and concerts, celebrating milestones, helping in classrooms, and countless memories with her children and grandchildren. Her love was steadfast and unconditional, and she never hesitated to drop everything and get in the car to be wherever she was needed.
Faith was at the center of Christine’s life. A devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk for more than 40 years, she served through teaching Sunday school, volunteering, and sharing God’s love through her kindness and actions. Her faith guided her life and was reflected in the compassion she showed to everyone she met.
For the last 8 plus years, the family is greatly appreciative for all the help, prayers and gestures they’ve received no matter how big or small.
