Chris DeAlan Boltz, age 67, of Prairie Crossing Living Center, Shabbona, formerly of Earlville, passed away, October 16, 2023, at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, Dekalb. A celebration of life will be held with a visitation at 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 21 at Earlville Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Homes, Pastor Denise Rode officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home, Earlville. Burial will be at a later date.
Chris was born on October 1, 1956, at Mendota Community Hospital, the fourth son of Wayne and Dolores (Matison) Boltz. Chris was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church as part of the 1970 confirmation class. Chris attended Earlville Community School District No. 9, graduating in the class of 1974.
Grandpa and Grandma Matison’s house became the Boltz family home. Chris used his handyman skills to make the house fit his family’s needs.
He loved gardening, landscaping and could still play the trumpet, was an avid Bears, Sox’s , Bulls, and Blackhawk fan.
When his own sons began competing in sports, Chris was right there with them coaching.
When not coaching and watching his sons play sports on a weekend, Chris could be found boating the Illinois river. He taught all of his sons how to ski.
Chris retired from Caterpillar in 2018 after 44 years.
He loved taking care of his granddaughter Annie.
Chris is survived by his sons, Kyle (Jenna), Peru; Evan, Earlville; and Max (Rylee), Earlville; former wife, Karla (Harner) Hasselbacher, Franklin Grove; former wife, Sheila (Serrano) Hadlock, Rockford; brothers, Scott and Stephanie Boltz, Columbia, MO; Sanford Boltz, Waterman; Robert and Linda Boltz; Aurora; sister-in-law, Irene Boltz; brothers-in-law, Doug Harner, La Moille, Greg Harner Jacksonville, FL; Granddaughters, Annie, Isla, and Monroe, numerous nieces and nephews as well as many cousins.
Chris was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Boltz; parents, Dolores and Wayne Boltz; his maternal grandparents, Larry and Helena Matison; and his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Edna Boltz. Nephew, Grant Harner , in laws, Dora and Howard Harner.
