Charles G. Wallis, 85, of Dixon formerly of Sandwich, IL passed away, Thursday, December 27, 2007 at K. S. B. Hospital in Dixon. He was born January 31, 1922 in Little Rock, IL, the son of Charles A. and Ruby Walters Wallis. Charles served his country in WWII in the United States Navy aboard the USS Tirante as a Torpedo Man First Class. The crew members of the Tirante were awarded a unit citation ribbon with star by then, Secretary of War (Navy) James Forrestal. He was also invited after the war to come to Washington D.C. by then president, Harry S. Truman, who come on board and personally shook each members hand. He was most proud of receiving Commendation Ribbon and Metal from Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, Commander of all ships in the Pacific Ocean during WWII. Charles retired from Hardware Business in MT.Morris, IL and had lived in Dixon, IL for many years.
He is survived by one sister, Dorothy (Bill) Griffith of Sandwich, IL; three brothers, James (Eileen) Wallis of Banning, CA, Ronald (Pat) Wallis of Sandwich, IL and Don (Ruth) Wallis of Sandwich, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Ruth in August 2002 and two sisters, Beatrice Thompson and Marie Gauer.
