Charles A. James, 84, formerly of Somonauk, IL passed away March 3, 2007 in Manhattan, KS. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjorie, and is survived by their children; Mark James of Oswego, IL and his daughters, Devon and Taylor; Janet James of Columbia Heights, MN; and Nancy and husband Jim Vesta of Clay Center, KS and their two daughters, Jill and Natalie. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Bonnie Thomas of Aurora, IL, and their children as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Lyman McKeever of Yorkville, IL.

He was born in South Haven, MI on October 11, 1922 to Robert and Margaret (Ryan) James, who preceded him in death in 1923 and 1983 respectively. He graduated from Aurora West High School before serving from 1942 to 1946 in the 8th Air Corp. He was proud to be a member of the American Legion.

Charles married Marjorie Steffen on June 29, 1949. They owned and operated James Jewelry in Sandwich, IL from 1951 through 2004. They were members of the Union Congregational Church in Somonauk, where he served as a deacon.

He moved to Kansas shortly after Marjorie's death, where he livened up Stoneybrook Assisted Living with his Irish sense of humor and his stories. He remained a White Sox fan until death.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk. The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Union Congregational Church of Somonauk with Reverend Kirk Moore officiaging. Interment with military honors will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery, following the service. Memorials on behalf of Charles and Marjorie James may be directed to the Union Congregational Church in Somonauk.
