Charles H. Haas

Charles H. Haas, 72, of Somonauk went home to be with The Lord peacefully with his family and beloved dog Maddie by his side on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Banner Gardens Hospice House in Mesa, AZ. He was born December 9, 1942 in Sandwich, the son of Harvey and Maggie (Hann) Haas. He married Darlene Erickson on May 25, 1968 in Aurora, IL. Chuck was a member of Harvest Chapel Church in Sandwich, Sandwich Moose Lodge, Somonauk Lions Club, Somonauk Fire Department, and Somonauk American Legion. He served in the United States Army from 1963-1967 and was stationed in Japan. Charles had a great love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always loved spending time with them. He enjoyed all sports but had a passion for fast pitch and later slow pitch softball, which he played all of his life. Chuck also liked the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears. He was a basketball scorekeeper for Somonauk Schools for several years. After his retirement, his new passion was for his grandfather’s restored 1932 Twin City tractor in which he took pride with his grandson Logan in sharing a piece of history with others in local parades.


He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Somonauk, IL; two daughters, Julie (Jeff) Grandgeorge of Somonauk, IL and Sandy (Kevin) Berge of Sandwich, IL; three sons, Todd (Ilene) Haas of Easton, CT, Gerald (Roberta) Haas of Ramsey, IL and Richard (Donna) Haas of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; fifteen grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; five sisters, Margaret Hardekopf of Somonauk, IL, Reita Hunt of Bolder, CO, Shirley VeZain of Somonauk, IL, Janet Baker of Somonauk, IL and Linda Melson of Somonauk, IL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Tom Haas and Paul Haas.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Harvest Chapel Church in Sandwich with Pastor Gary Lemberg officiating. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk with Pastor Derek Johnsen officiating.
