Charles A. “Charlie” Grover, age 64, of Leland, Illinois, suddenly passed away in his home on Thursday, April 5th, 2018.
Charlie was born in Aurora, Illinois, the third of five children of Lester Enoch and Doris Jean (Hoffman) Grover on September 8th, 1953. He graduated from Leland High School in 1971. He received his associates degree from Joliet Junior College and his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in Business Agriculture.
Charlie farmed on his family’s farm in Leland, Illinois with his father for nearly 50 years. He was an active member of the community having served on the Leland Farmer’s Company Board for 8 years, as president of the Adam’s Township Zoning Board for 4 years, and the Leland Lion’s Club for several years. He also served first as president and then as acting secretary treasurer of the Little Indian Creek Cemetery Board for 33 years until the time of his death. Like his father before him, Charlie was a devoted supporter of the Sons of the American Legion for 11 years, having donated beef and organizing annual breakfasts for Legion fundraising.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; and three children, Brandon Grover of Las Vegas, Nevada; Alaina (Darby) Burke of Princeton, Illinois; and Christopher (Jenna) Grover of Ottawa, Illinois. He also has one granddaughter. Charlie is survived by his siblings, Pamela LaVoy of Leland, Illinois; Spencer (Susan) Grover of Carmel, Indiana; Linda (Dale) Richard of Batavia, Illinois; and Donna (Glenn) Gustafsson of Bel Air, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Doris Grover of Leland, Illinois and his brother-in-law, Jack LaVoy of Leland, Illinois.
Private memorial services will be held at later date. A “Celebration of Life” will be hosted on Sunday, April 15th from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at C&M Canoe Rental at 3401 E 2062nd Rd, Ottawa, IL 61350
