Charles “Chuck” Nelson, 79, of rural Leland, IL passed away Monday, September 5, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 2, 1943 in Sandwich, IL the son of Axel “Swede” and Emma (Heminover) Nelson. He married Kay L. Olson on March 20, 1971 in Leland, IL. He was a member of the Operator’s Engineer Local #150 for over 51 years. He loved hunting, fishing, lawncare, cruising with his four-legged companion, “Maggie” by his side, and spending time in his woods. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is now at peace and there will be no more “burin’ daylight.”
He is survived by his wife, Kay; one daughter, Jennifer (Eric) Voss of Leland, IL; two grandchildren, Connor and Delaney Voss; two sisters, Pat Gates of Somonauk, IL and Rita Alsip of Joliet, IL; one brother-in-law, Herman Johnson of KY; two sisters-in-law, Barb and Terri Nelson both of Leland, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Rick and Dave Nelson; one sister, Marie Johnson; and two brothers-in-law, Don “Pinky” Gates and Wallace Alsip.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Leland Cemetery in Leland, IL with Rev. Chris Schoon officiating.
