Carolyn L. Duffy

Carolyn Duffy, 89, of Sandwich IL, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014, at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich. She was born on December 2, 1924, in DeKalb County IL, the daughter of Stanley and Elsie (Mosher) Johnson. Carolyn was a graduate of Shabbona High School.

She married Richard "Dick" Duffy on February 12, 1944, at St. James Catholic Church in Lee, IL. As a young woman, Carolyn was employed at Pneumatic Tool Company and Western Electric Company both of Aurora.

Carolyn was a woman of deep faith. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Sandwich. She belonged to the Legion of Mary and Our Lady of Fatima Blue Army at St. Mary Catholic Church in Plano and was a founding member of the Blue Army at St. Paul in Sandwich.

Carolyn had a deep love for her family and is survived by nine children: Melody Duffy (Margaret M McAlpin) of Newark DE, Patricia Voga of Sandwich, Jane (Stephen) Wolf of Sandwich, Robert (Phyllis) Duffy of Sandwich, Mary (David) Breeden of East Peoria, IL, Carol (Frank) Evans of Sandwich, Joanne (Patrick) Resendiz of Ottawa IL, William (Maureen) Duffy of Cape Girardeau MO, and Margery (Brian) Shinners of Oak Park IL; 25 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Carolyn is also survived by one sister, Lois Gardner of Ann Arbor MI; two brothers, Stanley (Katie) Johnson of Iowa City IA and James Johnson of Glen Carbon IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick, in 1991; one son, Edward J. Duffy, in 1978; two sisters, Barbara Duffy and Marjorie Turk; two brothers, Owen Johnson and Leonard Johnson; and one son-in-law, Dennis Voga.

Visitation will be at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich IL on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, beginning at 3:00 pm with a prayer service and the rosary. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday and from 8:30-9:30 am on Wednesday, July 9. The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk on Wednesday, July 9, officiated by Rev. Andrew Hougan. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at St. James Calvary Cemetery in Lee IL.

Memorials may be made to Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion or St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
