Caroline H. Krecic, 78, of Somonauk, Illinois passed away June 16, 2021 at her home.
Caroline Krecic led a full life. She was always busy, never idle. She was a maverick.
She loved helping her friends, neighbors, and animals. She loved garage sales, bargains, trinkets, and lamps. For some reason, she really liked picking up neglected lamps, cleaning them, fixing them and giving them away. She loved her little red pickup truck. It was used to bring home her treasures from garage sales, take items to drop offs for recycling or donating, move furniture and miscellaneous stuff for her friends. The little red truck was her independence and her path to being a good Samaritan to others.
Caroline accepted so many dogs that had become too much for their owners to care for, mainly the elderly people and the elderly dog. Throughout just the past 10 years, she probably cared for two to three dozen dogs and paid all their expenses. Pomerainians were her favorites. Taco, Sammy, Moppet, Rolley were just a few. Each one had their own bed although many slept with her, their own toys and bowls, their special place in the hierarchy. And they all got along.
Caroline was a generous donor to charities that helped wildlife, companion animals, soldiers’ dogs, therapy and assist dogs, and donkeys. Yes, donkeys:) Animals that most people don’t think much about let alone help fund their care. Her generosity saved many, many lives.
Supporting her local police and firefighters was important to her. Gift cards left at the local Casey’s to pay for their morning coffees and doughnuts, holiday gift cards, helping fund the purchase of a police dog Rizzo the bloodhound, to aid in tracking lost or wandering persons and other duties. These were mostly small gifts but, again, something many people consider doing but never do. She did.
Anyone who met Caroline remembered her. She had an opinion on most everything and shared them. She was pretty fearless in the face of challenges and would attempt her own home repairs, many times to the detriment of an appliance or an arm. But she tried. She always tried.
This is from a dear friend who spent lots of time with Caroline on her adventures: “She sure was one of the toughest, most self-reliant women I have ever known. A real warrior. She loved our family and we truly loved her. Godspeed Sweet Caroline. Your presence in our lives forever missed.”
According to Caroline’s wishes there will be no services. Memorials may be directed to Oaken Acres Wildlife Center 12140 Aldrich Road Sycamore, IL 60178. Cremation rites were entrusted to Turner-Eighner Funeral Home. For more information or to sign the online guest book go to
