Carl W. Decker, 101, of Sandwich, Illinois passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion, Sandwich. He was born August 30, 1911 in Chicago, IL the son of Charles and Martha (Gareish) Decker. He graduated from Tilden Tech High School. He married Christina Swift, following her death in 1974, he later married Katherine Charleston.
Carl was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving during WW II in the 15th Air Force. He was a member of the Federated Church in Sandwich, and a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge in Sandwich and Chicago. He retired from the United States Post Office in Sandwich, and was a former Sandwich Lion’s Club member.
He is survived by one son, David (Bonnie) Decker of Sheridan, IL, one son-in-law Robert Mayo of Texas; one step son Don (Ann) Charleston of Washington, IL; two grandchildren, Carl Decker of Aurora, IL and Craig (Janice) Decker of Yorkville, IL; two great grandchildren; three step grandchildren, Tony (Alison) Zwart, James Zwart and Connie (David) Hake and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both his wives, one daughter Alice Mayo, one brother, Charles and one step grandson, Richard Zwart.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home 606 E. Arnold Rd. in Sandwich, IL, with Pastor Don Ridder officiating. Burial of his urn will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Federated Church in Sandwich.
