Candace "Candi" Pence

Candace “Candi” Pence, 68, of Millbrook passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at her home. She was born October 29, 1957, in Sandwich, IL, the daughter of Ronald and Fern (Morgason) Helin. After meeting the love of her life at a birthday party, they went on their first date on June 4, 1976, and a year later Candace married Steven Pence at Millbrook Methodist Church and spent the next 50 years together. She attended Millbrook Methodist Church. Candace worked for the Newark and Sandwich school districts for 25 years as a paraprofessional. With her loving demeanor, she was an amazing caretaker. Most of all she loved her family, they were her everything.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Steve; her son, Jarad (Katie) Pence; her beloved grandchildren, Carstin C., Calyn R., and Kutter O.; her siblings, Russell Dean Underwood and Jackie (Patrick) Herhalt; her closest friends, Lisa McCaslin and Tami Westbrook and other friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Fern Helin, her in-laws, Owen and Ruby Pence, and her son, Justin Pence.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Sandwich. Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL.
