Brett Layne Meier, 53, of Plainfield, IL (formerly of Plano, IL) passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026 in Aurora surrounded by his family. Brett was born in Aurora, IL on September 17, 1972 to DeWayne and Betty (Gregory) Meier. He was united in marriage to Nancy (Waugh) Meier on March 7, 2005.
Brett and his wife, Nancy, shared a passion for travel and treasured the many experiences and memories they created together exploring new places. He was a devoted dog-dad to Toi and Boi, his two beloved dogs.
In his free time, Brett took great pride in his home, finding satisfaction in caring for and improving it as a reflection of the life he and Nancy built together. His passion for health and fitness extended beyond his career and became a hobby he enjoyed sharing with family and friends. His nephews, Colin and Connor, will especially treasure the many fitness-related memories they shared with him.
Brett proudly served as General Manager of Fitness at the Fox Valley Park District, where he was deeply committed to serving the community and played an important role in supporting a healthier Aurora through his leadership and dedication to accessible wellness opportunities. Prior to working in the fitness industry, Brett spent many years in the grocery store retail field for Eagle Food Center and Jewel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his two cherished dogs; his brother, Todd (Judy); and his nephews, Colin and Connor. He is also survived by his wife’s family, including his mother-in-law, Thelma Waugh; his father-in-law, William Waugh (Elaine); his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Cindy Waugh, Craig Waugh, and Sherry (Scott) Woodworth; and nieces, Tiffany (Bryce) Camp, Cami, and Kennedy, and nephews, Jacob and Joe Woodworth. He is also remembered by extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, DeWayne and Betty; his brother, Brent, in infancy; and many treasured aunts and uncles, along with beloved extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Plano on Monday, April 20,2026 at 10:30 am. Visitation is from 10:30 until time of service at 11:30 am. Private interment at Little Rock Township Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Brett’s memory, in honor of his parents, who both had cancer.
