Bill Sam Smith, 78, of Streator IL formally from Sandwich, IL passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 2, 1934 in Burkesville KY, the son of Duff and Mamie Smith. After returning home from the Army Bill farmed in Yorkville area then went to work for 34 years at CTS Knights until his retirement. He was a musician for many years in the Fox Valley Area.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lee (Gillispie) Smith; two children, Renita Gay (Steve) Donovan of Marseilles IL and William S. Smith of Streator; granddaughters, Jana (Marcus) Spicer and Carrie (Chad) Cayce of Whitehouse TN, Ashley Smith of Georgia; six great grandsons, Zachary, Austin, Lucas, Cayden, Caleb, Bradley; Sister, Mabel Sexton of Sheridan and sister-in-laws, Betty Smith of Somonauk and June Smith of Chicago, and many nieces and nephews. Long- time friends, Russ and Wilma Miller of Plano, Pearl and Bob Sigrist of Sandwich, Doris Adkins of Somonauk, Kathy Swartz of Streator .
Bill was preceded by his parents, Duff and Mamie Smith; one sister, Freed; brothers, Gobel, Reed, Ray Dean, Cecil; granddaughter, Tara Garrow.
Funeral will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL with Reverend John William Davis officiating Burial will follow at Millington Newark Cemetery in Millington, IL. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to the family or the charity of one’s choice.
