Betty Joyce Whitlock Thomas

Betty Joyce (Whitlock) Thomas, 78, of Sheridan, Illinois passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 12, 1937 in Freedom Township, LaSalle County, Illinois to Roy and Ethel (Hedgespeth) Whitlock. She married Junior Thomas on October 20, 1956 at the Earlville United Methodist Church. Betty graduated from Earlville High School in 1955. She was employed with Burlington Railroad in Chicago. Betty also worked as a Real Estate agent in Sandwich, Illinois. She was awarded the Real Estate Bronze Award. Betty was a member and a Sunday school teacher of the United Methodist Church in Earlville. She also served on the pastor parish committee.

Survivors include her husband, Junior Thomas of Sheridan, IL; two daughters, Jackie Knight of Ottawa, IL and Jill (Randy) Jannusch of Bloomington, IL; one son, John (Carol) Thomas of Sheridan, IL; five grandchildren, Emily Knight of Youngtown, AZ, Andrew Knight of Oak Forest, IL, Eric and Scott Thomas of Sheridan, IL and Ryan Jannusch of Thornton, CO. Betty has 7 nieces and 2 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Russell, Dale, Leroy and Roderick Whitlock; one sister Rita Welsh; half-sister Marzetta Neeley; one niece Rebecca Olsen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Earlville with the Reverend Sandy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Precinct Cemetery in Rural Earlville. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation, Alzheimer’s Foundation or the United Methodist Church of Earlville.
