Betty J. Steinke, 96, of Mendota formerly of Earlville, IL passed away, Friday, January 6, 2017 in Heritage Health in Mendota, IL. She was born January 1, 1921 Paw Paw, IL the daughter of Oakley and Mina Harnish Durr. Betty attended the country schools and graduated from Paw Paw High School. She married Gene Steinke on February 9, 1947 in Mendota, IL. Betty and Gene farmed south of Earlville with John Deere equipment for years before retiring, and moving to Earlville, where they lived for 17 years. They moved to Stonecroft Village in Mendota in August 2011. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville.
She is survived by her husband Gene, her niece Dixie Floyd Dewey of Paw Paw, IL, their three daughters, Kim Hoxsey and her daughter Jamie of Orion, IL, Debbie Jeff Hennessee and their daughters, Taylor and Madison of Cortland, IL and Kellie Challand Kevin Slosarek and her daughter, Morgan and son, Will of Cortland, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church 415 S. East St. Earlville, IL until the time of a Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Tammy Anderson and Pastor Ken Foster will be officiating. For more information or to sign the online guest book go to
