Betty C. Erickson May 19, 1946 – May 5, 2025 Sandwich, Illinois
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Betty C. Erickson Carey, of Sandwich, Illinois, on May 5, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her girls. Born on May 19, 1946, to James and Lorraine Sanders in Gadsden, Alabama, Betty was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Known for her warm smile and generous spirit, Betty always put the needs of others before her own. Her unwavering support touched the lives of many, and she consistently went above and beyond for those around her.
Betty received her RN from Michigan State University and her BS/MBA from Aurora University. As a business owner and community leader, she was a pillar of the Sandwich community. For over 25 years, Betty served as the Adult Day Services director at Fox Valley Community Services and was previously on the Board of Directors. Her commitment to the community earned her numerous awards, particularly for her work with the Alzheimer's Association and the Illinois Department of Aging, recognizing her exceptional patient care and compassion.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Dr. Edwin J. Carey. She is survived by her daughters, Krista Erickson Tetter Barlieb (Mike) and Karsta Erickson (Chuck Sites); her grandchildren, Kyra Erickson Tetter, Kelsen and Kohen Erickson; stepchildren Susan Otterstrom, John Carey (Lori), Carolyn Knoebel (Tim), Jane Nasharr (Dan), Edwin Carey Jr. (Pam), Andy Carey (Lisa), Scott Carey (Stephanie); many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother Ben Sanders (Kat); niece Denise Sanders; and countless friends whose lives she touched with her kindness.
A visitation will be on Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Sandwich, IL with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of Betty's life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Fox Valley Community Center (FVCS) in Sandwich, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fox Valley Community Services. Donate here.
Betty's legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
