Beatrice Ura Roath,100, of Earlville, IL passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 in Heritage Health in Mendota, IL. She was born on January 7, 1911 at home on the farm north east of Earlville, the daughter of Rutherford Mason and Theo Birdie (Seward) Roath. She graduated from Earlville High School and earned a Bachelors degree from DeKalb, IL and a Master’s degree in Education from Evanston, IL.
She taught for 12 years in one-room country schools and then 33 years in kindergarten in Oak Park, IL plus one year in business office of Oak Park, IL. During summer vacation worked in Pick Richard’s grocery store and also in children’s section of Earlville Public Library. She retired from teaching in 1975.
She is survived by two cousins, Thelma Battles of Ottawa and Patsy Berggren of Harding; and special friends and caregiver Melvin (Jan) Cronin, and friends, Ann (Carroll) Nelson, Mary Fae Myers, Laura Myers, Linda Peterson, Sylvia (Bob) Coffey, Adline Peterson, and Beverly and Diane Moore.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Royce Mason Roath and a cousin, Julian Edwin Vermeland, who came to be a member of her family when he was only four months old.
Burial will follow at Precinct Cemetery in Earlville, IL. Visitation will be from (one hour prior to service). Memorials may be directed to LaSalle County Retired Teachers Fund or Earlville Ambulance Fund.
