Barbara Jean Stahl, 90, of Sandwich peacefully passed away surrounded by her family Tuesday January 16th 2024.
Barbara was born July 12th 1933 in Murray, Kentucky the daughter of Edna and Thomas Osbron. She grew up in Plano, where she attended Plano Baptist Church and Plano High School, there she was crowned the first Plano Prom Queen.
She married Leonard “Skip” Stahl on May 9th 1953. They then moved to Sandwich where they raised their two daughters Theresa and Tammi.
Barbara was the 55th hire at Western Electric/AT&T in Montgomery Illinois. Barbara was a true and natural leader. She was promoted and served as the first female supervisor at western electric.
Barbara was always learning and designing regardless if it was in the kitchen cooking her yummy treats, her sewing room, at the piano, making photo books, painting and caring for her lawn and flowers.
After retirement at age 70 Barbara continued her love for baking where she worked at Arts Supermarket in the bakery, this brought her true joy.
Barbara’s love of history and her childhood community lead her to have an active role in the Plano Historical Society. She diligently worked to help open the first Plano Historical Society Museum in December of 2022.
Barbara’s greatest love of all was her family. She is survived by two daughters, Terri (Rick) Shaw of Sandwich, Tammi Westbrook of Sandwich; two granddaughters, Jillian (George) Hill of Sandwich, Jacqueline (Chris) Hums of Montgomery; and one grandson, Brandon (Vicki) Voga; great grand-children, Miles, Norah, Cooper, Morgan, Bryce and Henry.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 70 years Leonard “Skip” Stahl, siblings, Jessie (Gigi) , Betty Sue, and Mary Fran, and Thomas; son-in-law, Douglas Westbrook and granddaughter, Crystal Voga.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 21st, 2024 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk from 11 am to 1 pm. Funeral service will immediately follow with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Hinckley IL. Memorials may be made to the family to be divided amongst her favorite charities.
