Arnold L. Clarke, 95, formerly of Somonauk, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Bickford of Oswego Memory Care in Oswego, IL. He was born February 13, 1921 in Chadwick, IL, the son of Donald and Clara Straub Clarke, the youngest of six children. Arnold married the former Patricia LaBolle in Somonauk on June 10, 1950. They celebrated 52 happy years together until her passing in 2004.
Arnold worked for the Burlington Northern Railway for 35 years, holding various positions. He also served 22 years in charge of maintenance at the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Somonauk and as a Lector for 16 years at the church. Arnold served in the US Army during World War II as a clerk and Section Chief for an auto parts depot in New Guinea.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews across the country and by faithful friends and neighbors in the community.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, with Father Kevin Butler officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
