Arleane Harriet Olson, 89, of Leland, IL passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Iron Wood Estates in Sandwich, IL.
She was born August 28, 1928 in Earlville, IL, the daughter of Andrew and Hilma Torkilson Aurbeck. She married Robert E. Olson on April 6, 1946 in Leland, IL.
Arleane grew up in Leland where she met Berline Ohme, who would become a lifelong friend. As teenagers, the adventurous pair graduated from Selans Beauty School in Chicago and then returned to Leland to open a beauty shop for a short time. After getting married, Arleane and Robert farmed briefly in Waterman, IL, eventually settling in 1959 in Leland on the farm where they would raise their four beautiful daughters.
Arleane was a homemaker and a talented baker. Her home was never absent of delicious cookies or pie and she had a special knack for hospitality. You always left feeling well cared for and with a few treats in tow. She took pride in her flowers and enjoyed working outdoors, mowing the lawn, and helping out around the farm.
Arleane was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Leland, IL, where she served as treasurer on the Council for four years. She also kept the books for Carlson Oil in Leland, IL.
In 2013, she moved to Iron Wood Estates in Sandwich, IL, where she enjoyed activities with her lady friends and visits with her family – continuing to welcome everyone with a smile and offering a treat or two.
Arleane’s family is comforted in knowing that all four of her daughters were with her during her final days and that she is now at peace. Arleane is survived by her four children, Linda Rick Madsen of Marietta, GA, Brenda Karl Elder of Howards Grove, WI, Jackie Tom Harmon of Somonauk, IL, and Barb Richard, deceased Angelo of Woodridge, IL; six grandchildren, Andrea Will Madsen, Alyssa Kelly Kirkendoll, Amy Jay Wiegman, Seth Nancy Elder, Zach Amber Harmon, Wade Kate Elder; nine great grandchildren, Caden, Rylan, Ellie, Owen, Spencer, Gus, Wyatt, Bodee, and Arly Her namesake two sisters-in-law, Norma Jean Ray, deceased Aurbeck and Kay Alvin, deceased Aurbeck; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hilma; her father, Andrew; her husband, Robert; her siblings, Glen, Ray, Ralph, Alvin, John, Everett, Mildred, Norma, Betty, and Alverta.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 235 E. Lundy Lane Leland, IL with Pastor Zach Baer officiating. Burial will follow in Leland Cemetery Leland, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the church in Leland.
