Arden Leon Masear

February 8, 1938 — January 21, 2023

On Saturday, January 21, 2023, Arden Leon Masear went home to be with the Lord. Because of his personal relationship with Christ, we have comfort in knowing that he is now healed and in the presence of God.

Arden grew up in Somonauk, Illinois where he married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie. They were married 64 years, spent their lives, and raised their family there. He worked as a mechanic and was a farmer.

He was an extraordinary man. His abilities to build and fix anything were known throughout the area. He could troubleshoot problems, think outside the box and think fast on his feet. He mentored several people and was always willing to help and teach others. He was truly a real-life MacGyver.

Arden worked hard and played hard. He was a family man who provided, protected, and played with his family.

His greatest pleasures were camping in Illinois and spending time on the lake in the north woods of Minnesota with friends and family. He loved his recreational toys. In the summer he enjoyed trail riding on four-wheelers through the north woods, driving his boats and wave-runners on the lake and pulling family and friends on skis and tubes. In the winter he enjoyed trail riding on snowmobiles.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Bonnie Masear; three children, Tonya Weakley (Freeman), Annette Sears and Brett Masear (Jill); his grandchildren, Candi Classon, Hillary Herbst, Kendra Holloway (Will), Glendon Sears (Alexis), Alicia Lux (Zach), Austin Masear, Ben Stockman, Luke Stockman (Molly) and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Angela Nadine Herbst and great-grandchild, Bonnie Ransom Holloway.

He told great stories that we hope to keep alive. He was fiercely loved and will be sorely missed. He was one of a kind.

Private services will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, Illinois with Pastor Jeff Coester officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, Illinois. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to The Somonauk Baptist Church or a charity of one’s choice.
