Annabelle “Ann” Underwood of Somonauk, IL, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich, IL.
She was born September 21, 1931 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Russell and Josephine (Trulock) Olinger. She married Richard S. Underwood on August 20, 1953 in Galesburg, IL. She graduated from Abingdon High School and Western Illinois University where she was active in the Alpha Delta Journalism Fraternity and the Delta Zeta Sorority. She attended Northern Illinois University for her graduate work. She taught Language Arts for many years at Somonauk Jr. High. She was a member of UCC Union Congregational Church in Somonauk where she served with the Trustees, Deacons, Church Council, and Sunshine Band. She also served as Church Clerk and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a member of Valley West Community Hospital Auxiliary Board and served on the Somonauk Library Board for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard “Dick” Underwood of Somonauk; three sons, Jeff (Christie) Underwood of West Dundee, IL, Mark (Silvia) Underwood of Homewood, IL and Curt (Laurie) Underwood of McHenry, IL; seven grandchildren Eric, Ryan, Tyler, Jessica Ann, Jennifer Lee, Brad and John; one brother, Stanley (Marie) Olinger of Galesburg, IL and one sister, Marilyn Olinger of Abingdon, IL and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Martha Spencer.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2012 at UCC Union Congregational Church, 305 S. Gage Street, Somonauk with Rev. Kirk Moore and Rev. Bob Dell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk. Memorials may be directed to UCC Union Congregational Church in Somonauk, Somonauk Education Foundation or Open Door.
