Anita Herzog, 90, of Somonauk, IL passed away at her home on Thursday, November 23, 2017. She was born on August 14, 1927 in Sandwich, IL to her parents Raymond and Helen Klaas Kaufman. Anita lived in Somonauk her entire life. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL where she married Max Herzog on April 30, 1955. Anita was a loving mom, grandma, and great grandma who will be terribly missed. She loved her home, gardening, sewing, the holidays, especially Christmas, her big Memorial Day picnic, baking chocolate chip cookies and visiting with family and friends. She loved watching the Bulls, Cubs, and Dancing with the Stars.
Anita is survived by her children, Sheree Mike Ackerman of Leland; Steven Deb Herzog of Plano; Bryan Donna Herzog of Somonauk; Michele Dennis Stahl of Sandwich; Sandra Frank Rizzo of Oak Lawn; and Monica Erik Winckler of Leland; her grandchildren Grace Ackerman, Ericka, Natalie T.C., and Corinne Herzog, Hannah Ryan and Scott Herzog, Lauren Gary Johnston, Ethan, Aaron Haley, and Trey Stahl, Salvatore Rizzo, and Sophia, Julia, and Ava Winckler; great grandchildren Jackson and Scarlett Johnston; step grandchildren Jesse and Matt Seville. Her brothers Allen Joyce Kaufman, and Wayne Irene Kaufman her sisters Beverly Lyell Bowen and Hazel Sherman, sister-in-laws Donna Kaufman and Polly Anna Howard and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Max, granddaughter Melissa Ackerman, sister Barbara Sherman, brother Gerald Kaufman, and sister-in-laws Jean Johnson and Pat Donahue.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Kevin Butler officiating. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk, Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL.
