On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, Alvin Wakefield Warren went home to be with the Lord. Because of his personal relationship with Christ, we have comfort in knowing he is now healed and in the presence of God.
Al was born March 21, 1932, in Sandwich, the son of Davis and Edith (Wakefield) Warren. He graduated from Somonauk in 1950 and University of Illinois in 1954. Al was stationed in Alaska while serving in the Army. Al married the love of his life Myrtie Meek on December 2, 1956, in Kaneville, Il. They built a wonderful life together, farming and raising their four children. Al was a member of the Suydam United Methodist Church, United Church of Sandwich, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, DeKalb Seed Corn dealer, Farm Mutual Insurance, several boards (Federal Landbank, Somonauk Schools, DeKalb County Community Foundation) Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He made many lifelong friends wherever he was. Al never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtie; and children: Susan Warren of Rockford, IL; Ginny (Chuck) Anderson of South Beloit, IL; Alvin Warren Jr. of Leland; and Mark (Rachel) Warren of Normal, IL; grandchildren: Davis Warren, Sam Warren, Phil (Amanda) Anderson, Joel (Brittney) Anderson, Josh Anderson, Natalia Warren, James (Meghan) Warren, Clayton (Joy) Warren, Britta Warren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Gwen Fox of Somonauk, IL and Judy Caves of Raleigh, NC. Al is preceded in death by his parents.
Al’s optimism for life shone through in his love for the Cubs and fighting Illini, in his hobbies of hunting, fishing, and bowling, and even his consistent answer of “The Best” when asked how he was. Al and Myrtie made many beautiful memories traveling, ballroom dancing, attending Sandwich Fair, and vacationing at Eagle Nest Lodge in Northern MN. He loved his family so well, and his strong values of faith, education, and family will continue for generations.
