Alvin Philip Spera, 92, of Yorkville, IL passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at AccentCare in Naperville, IL. He was born May 31, 1932 in Chicago, IL. the son of Albert and Phyllis (Sawicke) Spera. He married LaVerne Mewes and they were married for 68 years. Alvin enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves in 1949. After three years in the Reserves, he was called into active duty due to the Korean War in which he was assigned to patrol the US coast for submarines. Alvin also served as a Yorkville Police Officer where he retired as a Lieutenant. After retirement, he taught Hunter’s Safety in which he put hundreds of adults and kids through courses and Concealed Carry training education. Alvin shared a fond love as an avid hunter, outdoorsman and fisherman, he was also a lifelong member of the Barber Greene Hunting and Fishing Club. He enjoyed deer hunting, skeet and trap shooting. Most of all Alvin enjoyed smoking his pipe and loved to talk to people. He was a strong believer in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; children, Ellen (Jeff) Halmagyi of CO, Elaine Spera of Serena, IL, Donna (Tim) Brown of CA, and Rick (Lisa) Spera of Oswego, IL; grandchildren, Jaimie (Jesse) Silva of CO, Amy (Jim) Spera of IL, Brett (Thana) Hornstein of CA, Jessica (Hunter) Wyckoff of CO, and Hunter Spera of IL ; great-grandkids, Easton and Wrenley Silva, Dajche Spera, Laciey Kempiak, Zayda, Zahra, and Emran Hornstein, and Charlotte and Eleanor Wyckoff.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dori Lukes.

Services will be held privately. All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life in honor of Alvin at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Helmar Lutheran Church located at 11935 Lisbon Rd., Newark, IL 60541 with a luncheon to follow.
