Alvin D. Novak, 90, of Earlville, Illinois passed away, Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Mendota Lutheran Home in Mendota, IL. He was born June 8, 1924 in Centralia, IL the son of Frank and Mary Jane (Weiler) Novak. He graduated from Mendota High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 ½ years with eighteen months overseas. Alvin was a draftsman for H.D. Hume Company in Mendota. He married June Klatt on March 28, 1948 in Earlville. He worked at Caterpillar for 20 years and farmed in the Earlville area for over 40 years. He was a member of the Earlville United Presbyterian Church, the Earlville American Legion, and a former member of the Earlville Masonic Lodge and the Mendota Elks Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and traveling when able, but was happiest when spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife June of Earlville, two daughters, Phyllis (Jack) Jordan of Port Byron, IL and Janis Novak of Davenport, IA; two sons, Kevin (Momoko) Novak of Tokyo, Japan and Don (Rita) Novak of Earlville, IL; 5 grandchildren, Ryan (Nicole) Novak, Brooke (Joe) Hannon, Breana Novak, Shawn Novak, and Justin Novak; one soon to be great grandchild; seven step grandchildren and families; one brother, Byron Novak of LaSalle, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Imogene and Arlinda and one brother Frank.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Earlville United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Del Keilman officiating. Burial will follow at the Precinct Cemetery rural Earlville. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 31st at the church until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Earlville American Legion or the Earlville United Presbyterian Church.
