Alvin M. Behrens, 79, of Yorkville, IL passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 25, 1938 in Millington, IL to Arthur and Mabel (Baker) Behrens. He married Goldie M. McKeever on February 14, 1958 at Yorkville Federated Church which is now Chapel on the Green. He was a member of the Yorkville Congregational Church. During his lifetime he was head of maintenance at The Chicago Area Boy Scout Council which now is Hoover Outdoor Center. Al did concrete work for most of his life. After retiring he delivered John Deere Tractors. He loved best spending time with his family and being Papa to his grandkids and great grandkids.
Al is survived by his wife of 60 years, Goldie (McKeever) Yorkville; 3 children Carla (David) Skinner of Tustin CA, David (Julie) Behrens of Sheridan, Julie (Steve) Gawne of Yorkville; 7 Grandchildren Matthew Skinner (Courtney Cole) of Morris, Christopher (Stacy) Skinner of Oswego, Alex Skinner (Mia Smith) of Yorkville, Nicholas Skinner of Chicago, Emily and Madelyn Gawne of Yorkville, and Jennifer (Carl) Stemmet of Waterman; 4 Great Grandchildren Colton Stemmet of Waterman, Lincoln, Penelope and Chelsea Skinner of Oswego; Sisters, Jean Martin of Yorkville, Kay Miller of Oswego, and Joanne (Jim) Marshall of Yorkville; brothers, John Behrens of Yorkville; Art (Charlene) Behrens of Yorkville; Dick (Marie) Behrens of Yorkville; Bill (Carolyn) Behrens of Plano.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother Melvin in infancy, Robert; Sisters Marg Jones and Marion Thomas; brothers in law, Fritz Cleveland, Oscar Jones, Lee Martin, Bryce Miller and Bill Thomas; sisters in law, Ruth Behrens, Clara Behrens, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Yorkville Congregational Church 409 Center Parkway Yorkville, with Pastor Mark S. Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Pavillion Cemetery Yorkville. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2018 in the church. Arrangements were entrusted to Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Plano. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Yorkville Congregational Church.
