Al L. Lower, a dedicated and resourceful individual who contributed significantly to the tech field through a variety of roles, passed away peacefully at his home in Somonauk, Illinois, on June 1, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on June 20, 1934, in Oak Park, Illinois, Al lived a life marked by commitment, craftsmanship, and community involvement.

Al's journey was one of service and skill. Proudly serving in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1958, he was a valued member of the Underwater Demolition Team (UDT). Demonstrating exceptional aptitude, he was one of only four students out of a class of forty to successfully complete the rigorous Navy Electronic School. His naval service exemplified the dedication and perseverance that characterized his entire life.

Following his military service, Al embarked on a diverse career in technology, where he applied his talents across numerous positions, contributing to advancements and innovations within the field. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Al was passionate about woodworking and craftsmanship. He thoughtfully designed and built his own home, personally handling every aspect of construction except for the roofing and cement work, embodying a hands-on approach and an eye for detail that bespoke his deep care and creativity.

On August 26, 1961, Al married Marilyn Olson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Somonauk, Illinois. Their union, sustained over nearly 65 years, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Marilyn remained by his side in his final moments, reflecting a lifelong bond grounded in mutual respect and devotion.

Al was an active member of his community, connected to several organizations that enriched his social and civic life. He held memberships in the Sandwich Sportsman's Club, Newark Sportsman's Club, the Sandwich Moose, and the Somonauk Lion's Club, where he cultivated friendships and contributed to local initiatives.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Albert and Mathilda Lower. Al is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn, and a host of friends who cherished his kindness, wisdom, and steady presence.

Graveside service with Military Honors by the Navy and the Plano American Legion will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Millington-Newark Cemetery in Millington, IL.
