Robert J. Fanning, 79, of Earlville formerly of Sandwich, IL passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Sandwich Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Sandwich.
He was born July 1, 1931 in Sandwich, IL, the son of Ambrose John and Lillian Annamarie (Hoffman) Fanning. He married Jean Louise Thorson on July 21, 1951 in Wichita Fall, TX. He graduated from Sandwich High School in 1948. Veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a truck driver for Bennett Motor in Sandwich and Roadway Express in Aurora until his retirement in May of 1990. Following retirement he and Jean moved to DeFuniak Springs, FL and returned to Illinois in 1999. He was a life time member of Loyal Order of the Moose #1016 in Sandwich.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Earlville; three children, Michael (Ruby) Fanning of Yorkville, and twins James (Gail) Fanning of Sheridan and Janice (David) Rohrer of Sheridan; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Roberta Bloyd and twin sisters, Ellen Fanning and Helen Fanning.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk. Burial will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
