Phil Hoffman, 65, of Sandwich, IL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at his beloved motorcycle shop, Black Magic Customs Motorcycle Shop. He was born October 14, 1958 in Sandwich, the son of Donald & Barbara “Boots” Hoffman. He married Lynn A. Stacey on June 18, 1983 in Sandwich. Phil was a proud member of the US Marine Corps; he was a scout sniper and was stationed in Hawaii. He was a member of the American Legion Riders and A.B.A.T.E of Illinois. Being larger than life, everyone loved Phil. He had a great love of motorcycles. Phil was so talented with his bike building that his work was featured all over the world in magazines and shows, winning numerous accolades. He had a passion for Harley Davidson Panhead Motorcycles and shared his knowledge with anyone and everyone. He was a great mentor and never once lost his patience with his apprentice, Jesse, nor his sidekick and assistant: Dan. Phil was good at everything he tried and pushed himself to perfection and expected it from others. Highly disciplined, he did not allow immense physical pain to stop him from accomplishing his goals. He was an extraordinary husband, father, and friend.
Phil leaves behind his wife, Lynn of Sandwich; his son, “Spud” (Kathy) Hoffman of MN; his sister-in-law, Jane Johnson of AR; his brother-in-law, Judge Rex (Deb) Stacey of MN; his niece, Anna (Tim Yench) Hoffman of Yorkville, IL; his great nephew, Knoxley; his uncle, Ron Rhoads; his sister-in-law, Lana; his beloved German Shepherds, Sonny and Jesse; his brother, Lynn “Muck” Hoffman; his nephew, Brad. He will also be missed by his numerous extended family and multitude of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Reed Hoffman, his in-laws, Joe and Olive Stacey.
A visitation in Phil’s honor on Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023 at the funeral home in Sandwich. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich with Military honors.
