Marjorie Lucille Tuftie Cantlin

August 14, 1918 — March 2, 2015

Marjorie Lucille Tuftie Cantlin of Earlville passed away at Mendota Community Hospital on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the age of 96. She was born to Theodore and Myrtle Kirkus Tuftie in Freedom Township on August 14, 1918. She graduated from Serena High School and was the last surviving member of the Class of 1936.

Marge married Miles James Cantlin on February 6, 1937. Together they were dairy and hog farmers and farmed in Freedom, Ophir and Paw Paw Townships. Miles and Marge operated the M & M Poultry Farm in rural Earlville several years before retiring in 1979 and moving to Earlville. She was truly a farmer's wife.

She was a member of the Ruth Circle of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Generation Exchange at Earlville Schools for several years spending time helping and listening to the children read. Marge enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved attending their games and school activities. She had several hobbies over the years and enjoyed cooking, golfing, playing cards, traveling to her family in California and enjoying the water activities on Lake Mead.

Marge is survived by one son Roger (Kay) Cantlin of Naperville and two daughters Phyllis (John) Dyas of Yorba Linda, California and Connie Cantlin Miller of Oswego, 9 grandchildren Steve Cantlin of Naperville, Sandra (Dave) Phillips of Chicago, John (Doreen) Dyas Jr of California, Philip (DeeAnn) Dyas of Wisconsin, Christine (John) Mash, David (Julie) Dyas both of California, Cathy (Mark) Setchell of Ottawa, Cindy (Roger) Torman and Carrie (Adam) Browder both of Earlville, 22 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson Timothy Hoffman of Nebraska, one sister Lois Trippon Peterson of Ottawa, one brother Donald (Joan) Tuftie of Earlville and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Miles on November 25, 1993, a child in infancy, four brothers Fremont, Robert LaVerne, Mervin, Robert Wayne and great grandson John Mash Jr in 2010.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons Mark and Jakob Setchell, Roger and Cristopher Torman and Adam and Ryan Browder. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren Christopher (Lauren), Steven, Matthew, Patrick, Ethan, Erin and Amanda Dyas, Nicole (Shawn) Hoffman, Miles, Joseph and Michael Mash, Kaylin Phillips, Jenna Setchell, Molly and Morgan Torman, Carrissa Miller, Taylor, Elizabeth and Aaden Browder.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to CHOC Children's Foundation (Children's Hospital of Orange County) 1201 West LaVeta Av Orange CA 92868, Earlville Foundation for Excellence in Education or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held Friday March 13th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church 415 East St Earlville IL. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday March 14th at 4:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Precinct Cemetery in Earlville.
