Marie Hatland, 97, formerly of Leland, IL passed away into the arms of her Lord on Friday, September 18, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Plainfield, IL, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on November 23, 1917 in Leland, IL, the daughter of Clarence and Emma Antoine Henry. She graduated from Leland High School with the class 1937. Marie married Howard Hatland on January 3, 1942. After Howard’s return from serving in World War II, they built a life together farming in the Leland area. After moving into town, she enjoyed serving her neighbors and friends as she worked at Von Ohlen’s Drug Store in Leland from 1965 to 1975. Always full of love and kindness, Marie enjoyed a variety of activities over the years, from roller skating to bowling, bridge, traveling, house boating and reading; but nothing gave her more joy than doing things with and for her family and friends. She is survived by her two children, James Donave Stanley Hatland of Las Vegas, NV and Marlene John Anderson of Plainfield, IL and their families; a sister-in-law, Ardella Hatland of Ottawa, IL; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clifford Gloria Hatland of DeKalb, IL and many very special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard in 1989, a brother, Lyle Henry in 1991, three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk with Father Kevin Butler officiating.
