Kenneth W. Borton, 71, of Earlville passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, IL. He was born October 23, 1941 in Peoria, IL the son of Eugene D. and Nina F. (Taylor) Borton. He married Barbara Rankin on June 14, 1958 in Havana, IL. Ken proudly served his country in the US Army for 5 years. He worked at Caterpillar for 33 years and retired in 1998. After retirement, he drove a school bus for the Earlville School District for 8 years. He took great joy in driving Kayla Brouhle to Leland from Earlville and back. Ken loved sports, especially the Cardinals and the Bears. No one was a stranger, just a friend he hadn’t met yet. Ken enjoyed talking to everyone and always had a great smile. Everyday Ken would work on his crossword puzzles. Most of all he enjoyed his family, friends and pups, Max and Charlie. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Sandra Labak, the chemo nurses and Dr. Mohammed Raheem at Dreyer Cancer Center.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Earlville; one daughter, Patti (Kelly) Collins of Somonauk; two sons, Scott (Kathy) Borton of Somonauk and Trent Borton of Joliet; eight grandchildren, Josh (Aimee) Borton of Channahon, Ryan (Sara Yater) Collins of Sandwich, Nikki (Dan) Thompson of Lisbon, Cristin (Greg) Hologa of Somonauk, Vance (Ali Colle) Collins of Millbrook, Kayla Borton of Chicago, Kenzie Borton of Joliet, Karah Borton of DeKalb; ten great grandchildren, Paige, Gavin, Aiden, Rhiannon, Ashton, Weston, Carson, Kenna, Kailee and Reagan; one brother, Don (Janet) Borton of Washington; one sister-in-law, Betsy (Dave) Unger of Big Rock; two brothers-in-law, Kurt (Fran) Rankin of Pekin and Marc Rankin of Earlville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Mardi Borton-Spangler in April of 2006, one son-in-law, Bob Spangler in January of 2009, one brother, Dale Borton in September of 1997, and his mother-in-law, Marjorie Eggleston in 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk with Pastor Del Keilman officiating. Burial will follow in Precinct Cemetery in Earlville. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the funeral home in Somonauk. Memorials may be directed to Union Congregational Church in Somonauk.
