June G. Schumacher, 79, passed away January 1, 2012 at Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich. She was born on March 22, 1932 in Plano Illinois to William and Frances (Erickson) Gramley. She married Robert M. Schumacher on September 6, 1952 at the Plano Methodist Church. June served as Treasurer for the City of Plano from 1973-1985, and was a Board Member of the Illinois Municipal Treasurers Association where she originated regional meetings in the state. She and Robert were members of the Community of Faith Methodist Church in Florida.
June and Robert enjoyed traveling and wintered in Florida since 1988. She was an accomplished quilter and was active in the Calico Quilters in Yorkville for many years. June was also an avid baker and cook making amazing displays of Christmas cookies and triangle donuts. June was a long time believer in the principles of the 4-H Club and lived in 4-H House at the University of Illinois. She always welcomed and entertained family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was proud of and celebrated her family’s accomplishments.
June is survived by her husband, Robert; one daughter, Dianne S. (John) Anderson of Hinsdale, Illinois; one son, Robert M. (Mary) Schumacher, Jr. of Wheaton, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Robert and Jay Hartbank; Amanda, Jennifer, and John P. Anderson; Ryan (Kristen), Robert A., Catherine, and Adam Schumacher; one brother, William W. (“Tweeza”) Gramley of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Alvin (Betty) Schumacher of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Ellen Gramley of Lincoln, Illinois and many beloved nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen K. Hartbank, and brother, Wendell “Tom” Gramley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, Illinois with Rev. Clare Gramley (nephew) officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral services at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held in Polo Park East Club House in Davenport Florida in March in honor of June’s 80th birthday. Memorials may be directed to the Kendall County 4-H or Community of Faith Methodist Church in Davenport, Florida.
