John A. Anderson

October 10, 1942 - July 2, 2019

John A. Anderson, 76, of Plano, IL passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 10, 1942 in Chicago, IL, the son of Ellen Esbrook. He married Dolores “Dee” Morel on May 31, 2004 in Las Vegas, NV after 25 years together. John was a proud member of the US Army, the Plano American Legion Post 395, Free Masons, Westwood Archers, the Sandwich Moose, and Jaycees. He coached Plano Pee Wee Baseball, Bitty Basketball, and Men’s Slow Pitch Softball for Jim’s Body Shop. John was on the Moose Golf League and raced stock car #32 at Sycamore Speedway. He owned and operated Anderson Masonry and also sponsored the Anderson Masonry Bowling League. John was alderman for the city of Plano from 1992-1997 and 1999-2003. He was on the Plano Planning Commission and the Plano Police and Fire Commission. John was an avid fan of NASCAR, the Chicago White Sox, and the Chicago Bears. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, and hunting. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Dee of Plano, IL; his children, Mark (Jennifer) Anderson of Plano, IL, Stephanie Geddes of Brighton, MI, and Jennifer Howard of Blountville, TN; seven grandchildren, Devin, Kara, Helen, Max, Eli, Brandon, and Ellie; one great grandchild, Avery; his sister, Donna Bender of Castle Wood, VA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Esbrook, and his sisters, Barbara Delany and Cherryl Ann. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Plano, IL. Burial will follow at Millington-Newark Cemetery in Millington, IL. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the funeral home in Plano, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Special Olympics or the Plano American Legion Post 395.
