George Smith, Jr., 90, of Sandwich, IL passed away Monday, October 8, 2018. He was born March 30, 1928 in Dixon, IL, the son of George and Lena (Crouse) Smith. He married Margaret Park together they had George Wayne and John C. and later married Jean M. Olson, and they had Ron and Elaine. George enjoyed motorcycling, bowling, roller skating, camping, and fishing. He also enjoyed helping at St. Paul’s Parish Center selling cards and calling lighting for bingo. George helped at the Sandwich Fair for the tractor & truck pulls. Most of all, George loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, George Wayne (Charlotte) Smith of Winter Haven, FL, John (Sandy) Smith of Somonauk, IL, Ron (Robin) Smith of Plano, IL, and Elaine (Mark) Smith of Leland, IL; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two extended sisters, Cathy and Deanna; two extended brothers, Dennis and Roy; his close friend, Denise Hess; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean, his sisters, Evelyn Lage and Virginia Smith, and a brother in infancy.
Memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk with Pastor Del Keilman officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at noon on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the funeral home in Somonauk.
