David Lavern Stahl

On February 12th, 2023, David L. Stahl, 88 years old, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 8, 1935 in Sandwich, IL the son of Laverne and Ruth (Waechter) Stahl. Dave spent his life in Sandwich, Illinois, steward of the land as a lifelong farmer. Dave was the definition of grit and resilience; he faced difficulties with determination and confidence. With his belief in Jesus, and armed with duct-tape and bailing wire, there was not much he could not accomplish. Dave led by example both in his work and family life, exemplifying the meaning of humility and hard work, and will be sadly missed by many. Dave was lovingly known as and called “Old Man” and “Gramps” by those he loved and those that loved him.

Most of all, Dave loved his wife Sandra of 68 years, his three kids Jerrine (Brian) McIntyre, Dave (Diane) Stahl, and Dennis (Michele) Stahl, his grandchildren Erik (Gina) Carlson, Andrea (Corky) Spicer, Josh (Shannon) Stahl, Erica (Nick) Deacon, Sarah (Scott) Thomas, Lauren (Gary) Johnston, Ethan (Emily) Stahl, Aaron (Haley) Stahl, Trey Stahl, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and his brother Howard Stahl.

Dave is preceded in death by his father, Laverne Stahl, his mother, Ruth Waechter Shannon, his stepmother Agnes Stahl, his brothers Lowery “Slick” Stahl and Steve Stahl.

Visitation will be held at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk on Wednesday, February 15th from 3pm to 7pm. The funeral will take place at the Federated Church in Sandwich on Thursday, February 16th at 10am.
