William "Bill" Charles Dewey, 68, passed peacefully from this life on the morning of Sunday, May 7th 2023 after a heroic battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family during the last days of his life. Bill was born on October 7, 1954 in Ames, Iowa to Robert and Arden Dewey. He attended Leland High School in Leland, IL where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife Kris. They married on November 27, 1976 . Bill was a retired Union painter, but prior to this, Bill and his father farmed locally for over 20 years. He continued to manage the family farms until his passing. Bill was a loving husband, father, son, uncle, brother, and grandfather. When he wasn't with his wife or family, he could be found on his beloved golf course any time of year. He was very active in the Leland community where he served as the Water Commissioner for a number of years, president of the Leland Cemetery Board and was an active member of the Leland United Methodist Church. He was a man that could always be counted on to help his family and friends in times of need, and his quiet demeanor earned him the trust and friendship of so many in his life.
Bill is survived by his mother, Arden; his wife of 46 years, Kris; his two daughters, Leslie (Colin) Cantwell and Lisa (Michael) Olson; five grandchildren, Maya, Norah, Mason, Aria, and Marcus; his brother; John (Nikki) Dewey, his sister, Becky Michaelis; and many other friends and family.
He is predeceased by his father, Robert and grandparents Florence Dewey, Russell, and Dorothy Warren.
A visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. A memorial service is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., noon at the funeral home following the visitation. Pastor Abraham Moeller will be officiating.
