Roy Lee Wright, 66, of Sandwich, IL passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011. He was born November 28, 1945, in Kirksville, MO the son of Roscoe and Donna Lee (Daniels) Wright. He married Vivian Vice on January 8, 1966, in Kirksville.
Roy was employed by the City of Sandwich for twenty years and then was self-employed with his own excavating and trucking business.
Roy enjoyed being a “Jack-of-all-trades.” If he couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed. His antique truck and equipment hobbies kept him close to home except when on excursions to find parts. Roy phoned his friends and family on a daily basis and was proud of his grandchildren.
Roy was the past President of the Sandwich Lions Club and recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Kearsarge during the Vietnam Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian of Sandwich; two children, Heath (Michelle Kelly) Wright of Plainfield, IL, Eleni Lee (Brian) Filippi of Yorkville, IL; four grandchildren, Ian and Iris Wright and one expected, Jazmin and Jozelle Filippi; one brother, Jerry (Karen) Wright of Gibson City, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sandwich with Rev. David Kaul officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sandwich Lions Club or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich.
